Even your house can have four Seasons – let’s start with Summer

We can’t change our furniture or the colors on the walls every season but, if you have chosen neutral colors as basic, it is easy to get a new look only with little changes.

Our mood changes in summer, days are longer, light is brighter and temperature higher (let’s hope! At the beginning of this summer it wasn’t exactly in this way). All these factors wake up our desire of relaxing, they let us think about holidays and so: why can’t we start living our holidays from the beginning of summer even if we are still at home? Summer means freedom (we go to sleep later, we go out more often, we dress differently, we can dare more…), we stop our routine and our life gets more casual. Many of us love summer but it goes away quickly, that’s why we have to bring it home with decorations, colors, open windows and walking without shoes exactly like on holiday!

Maybe there are some advices you think it’s too much…do what you feel but remember: if you change your curtains and your pillows this can be expensive, so you can decide to spend this year for one thing and next year for another one. On the contrary if you want to change completely your house this means a lot of money and therefore don’t let yourself follow the colors of the moment, choose classical ones or colors you really love. If your curtains are made of velvet or any other heavy fabrics, it is a good solution if you change them with curtains made of white or rough linen.

Your beach wicker can be used as runner tablecloth with some sands for birds (you can buy it at the supermarket), some shells from your old holidays, a nice vase with a candle (you can fill it with sands and shells as well if you like it) and here it is your decoration for your summer table! “Not-seaside” version: a crochet wicker as a runner tablecloth. In this case use small flowers (artificial of course), put them on the table and finish everything with a colored vase with a candle inside. In this second version a bouquet of wildflowers you have gathered would be very nice.

If you have a pin wall at home change its photos, cut pictures you like, you know what kind of picture lets you smile immediately (it works exactly like the self-confidence in front the mirror: you are beautiful, wonderful, you can do it….).

Pillows: they are very important because they add something different very easily. Use colored ones, made of linen, flowered or striped ones, even a mix of everything can be a good idea, but they have to fit with all the rest. Same thing for your sofa cover (I don’t mean those ones with elastic bands) …they could be old sheets belonging to your grandmother, made of linen, with her initials embroidered, or made of colored fabric you can buy with the length you need (very important: never without hem!!). Change your candles if you have them in, retire the ones with fireplace or incense smell and put those ones with flower smell.

Lampshades: it’s very easy to change them as well. A good solution is to buy a very cheap one and change it with new fabric, buttons, ribbons, colors…it depends on the result you want to obtain, but, as I always say but I never get tired of repeating: everything must fit together! Only in this way the result is harmonic and good looking.

Change pillows and bedcover in your bedroom. You can add a mosquito net above your bed, it’s really “Africa” and very useful as well.

In your bathroom you can change your towels and bathrobe with honeycomb ones. These ones are very lighter and get dry much faster.

Everybody has places with still life decorations in his house, maybe an orchid, a pile of books, candle holder…I mean all those little heap of things we love…here a refreshing can do miracles as well.

After our holidays we are going to discover what can help us to prepare for next season in our houses: Autumn. Not things that worry us because of Winter approaching, but things that let us feel good in our “nests”.

Any season has beautiful things and we have to live them because if we only wait for Summer we get older any year without enjoying what there is before its coming. So: let’s live our Summer at full!
