A house in the mountains isn’t rustic anymore

For some years we have been going on holiday to the mountains in winter and so I got some experience observing and studying habits there.

What is important?

Most houses in the mountains have one thing in common: they are little and have to satisfy many needs.

You need a corridor for your dirty and wet shoes, a bathroom of course, a bedroom, if it’s possible a “guest room” (it means space where welcome someone)  and a “living room/dining room/kitchen” all together. And here we are. In the mountains it is nice to stay together with friends, have dinner eating a lot of cheese, soups, risotto, pasta and at the end you really need a little glass of grappa. Your table has really a big role! As a rule, according to my experience, you need place for 6 people (4 normal and 2 to add).

In these years I got really fed up  with the usual pine wood, red and green colors. If you haven’t much space certainly these colors don’t help to make it bigger.

Why don’t we try to choose new colors?

The photos you can see represent a house of 37 square meters and it has all the rooms I described before. The chairs around the table are a very clever idea, because when you are not eating you can turn them and they are like small “armchair” where you can talk comfortably.

The color I chose makes the room bigger, and the console in the middle gives you the possibility to work better in the kitchen. I use the furniture that is in the “living room” for dishes, glasses, tablecloth etc….all you need to prepare your table. There is also place for decorations like a collection of cows at the wall, some trophies you can decorate in an unusual way, with necklace like that one from “Coco Chanel”, a magazine rack made of felt, an important lamp in the center made of “diamonds”, fur plaid, curtains made of linen in grey or beige color. If you like more colors you can add one, for example lilac or petrol and you can use them for your pillows, plaids, candles or/and towels etc.

So as you can see…..the houses in the mountains don’t have to be heavy and dark. Trust yourself and risk a little bit!
