Tuscany in winter part 1: a very normal day

\r\n

Going to the sea in Winter time has its own charm. And if the weather is beautiful like this year you can say nothing, you can only enjoy and have fun. When we arrived a very beautiful day was awaiting us and the first thing we did was to say hello to our old friends. We took an aperitif in quietness, we ate a simple plate of pasta near the harbor and at the end we went to the little beach near the harbor. It was virgin without any beach umbrellas, clear water and silence. We enjoyed the sun laying our back comfortably against the rescue boats on the beach reading a book. At the end of the day we had an unexpected present: a beautiful sunset! What to you ask more from life?

Tuscany in winter part 2: Siena

\r\n

Siena...Siena... I think that the most of foreign people know this town! It really has something special this Piazza del Campo! Not only this this square, but also the whole town has wonderful and well-renovated houses. The cathedral reminds me the churches of Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa. The same effect of the stones. The atmosphere in front of the cathedral is peaceful. People are very nice and friendly, it's easy to get a conversation with them. The last time Ive been in Siena it was some years ago, to be more precise I've to say 26 years ago. On this winter holidays I've been twice! Talking about food it offers a lot of possibilities: during our first visit we ate in an ancient “Osteria” whose name was “La Logge”, the same idea had Fidel Castro some years ago as well: he was guest in this Osteria! During our second visit we went to a “Drogheria” named “Communitas Vitae atque Victus”, near the Market square. It's a very and magnificent idea to have a little snack there. You can order a selection of “Crostini Toscani” and/or a tray of different salami and cheese. Everything was marvelous! The owner explains every single piece on this tray and suggests you one of his fantastic wine to drink with. After all this delight don't you want to go to the “Bar Nannini” to enjoy a coffee? This Bar belongs to Nannini family and it offers you the famous cookies form Tuscany, like “Cantucci”. In the evening I suggest you to walk around Piazza del Campo once again to enjoy it with lights and its magic atmosphere!

Tuscany in winter part 3: Abbey of San Galgano

\r\n

As it was a beautiful day we started an adventure journey to find ourselves in the Abbey of San Galgano, more or less 30 km. far from Siena. This big abbey is completely destroyed right now, it has only the walls. But don't imagine a sad and spoilt place! Without roof you have a free view on the blue sky and you find yourself in a wonderful and magic place. In summertime classical concerts take place here and for me it's quite sure that I'm going to listen to one of them.

Tuscany in winter part 4: first January sailing on the sea

\r\n

It's a tradition to express a wish if you eat or do something for the first time in the year. We went sailing on the sea on the first day of the year and I expressed my desire. I'm not going to tell you or it won't come true!

Tuscany in winter part 5: Populonia

\r\n

For people crazy for archeology Populonia is the right place to visit the Etruscan tombs. A very small village with the walls around and a castle. It was the second time that I have visited this place and I always found a lot of wind. You can listen to it also in my video. If you get a little hungry...in the center of the village there is an old “Drogheria”: “La spiritosa”. For the moment it offers two hot plates of the day and a choice of cheese and salami. In the future, maybe next summer, they want to offer a fresh menu based on more hot plates, it depends on what the owner can find fresh and interesting at the market. For sure I'll come back!
