As usual…. to see better “click” on the photos!
I decided to spend a weekend in Rome in November and so I prepared a little suitcase with a light pullover and a windbreaker but I was really surprised when I reached the town and I could go out without socks and wearing just a t-shirt! A wonderful weather to visit a beautiful town!

This wasn’t my first time in Rome but any time I go there I’m surprised to find so much history everywhere!

We left on Friday, in the early morning, and we went by train. My first time by train to Rome and I can say it’s really comfortable and fast. We got to Rome in only three hours! A taxi to reach our hotel in the centre (but not expensive at all). The hotel (Hotel Fontanella Borghese) was very clean, simple and in a perfect position to get to any corner of the town on foot.

So we could immediately start our exploration of Rome. We left our suitcases in our room, we wore easy shoes and ready! Piazza di Spagna was just few minutes far and so the first step of our excursion was right this famous square. We walked through Via Condotti and we could admire its beautiful shop windows, full of brands and fashion. After this well-known street there is Via del Corso where I found a beautiful shoes shop called “Marco”, full of original fashion models and at good price. I can’t help entering there and here was my first purchase: a pair of blue shoes in “Church’s” style.

We went on towards Piazza del Popolo where there is the mythical “Bar Rosati” and where you can even meet stars form Hollywood and from show business. Oh oh! They had already decorated a Christmas tree! I’m used to be the first one!!!! Not this time!

We are lucky because we have got some friends in Rome. So we went to them for dinner, their house is near a very nice square. The dinner was fantastic because our friend is really a good cook (she is a member of Italian Cuisine). If you think about difficult and elaborated plates, you are wrong. She likes simple cuisine but very well done. As she is from Puglia, she cooked for us typical plates from this region of Italy. The following morning we used the tickets we had bought online to visit the Vaticano museums. We went on foot crossing the Tevere bridge, passing by Castel Sant’Angelo and in short we got to Piazza San Pietro. Always an astonishing view in this square! Anything is well preserved. I’m talking about the art treasures, it’s not necessary to say they are so beautiful! There is everything: pictures, tapestries, statues, painted ceilings, precious floors, and so on…and when you think nothing can be better, you reach the Cappella Sistina by Michelangelo and you are moved!!! The only thing that is difficult on a Sunday morning is the quantity of people that is there. A place like this should be visited with calm and quietness, but everybody wants to see…

We went to the areas beyond the Tevere river in a little restaurant where I had already been 16 years before. Its name is “L’orso 80”. It was really nice to go back to this special place after so much time and discoverer that it hadn’t lost anything from its authenticity! It’s famous for its starters with vegetables. You can eat 15 different cooked and uncooked vegetables. We ate these starters and then the “Matriciana Bianca”. “Bianca” means “white” because it has no tomato sauce. They call this plate “La Grigia” and it’s very good when you enjoy it together with a wine from the house. A wonderful lemon sorbet to finish!
Just outside this restaurant there is an old stationary store (Legatoria artistica) where you can find memo-books realized by the owner herself with paper drawn by priests and boxes with paper you can personally choose, photo books, memos and for me that I love paper it’s really Heaven on earth!.

We went on walking and stopping here and there to discover little shops and secret corners. One shop attracted me, its name is “Sempre Natale”(“Always Christmas”).
Our husbands started feeling tired and decided to have a break in Piazza Campo Marzio. My friend and me couldn’t stop because Rome was too charming. We got to the shops “Kiehls” and I had to enter there. First because I have used their products for a couple of years and I love their perfume “Vanilla-Sandelwood” and second because I like having news about recent products. The staff was really kind and professional and I had interesting info as usual. I couldn’t help buying the new anti age line. I’ll tell you its results on my Facebook page.
“Zara” is a shop you have to see in Rome. I bought something there as well: a pair of black gym low crotch trousers and a grey overall with coulisse and long neck but without sleeves.

We went back to the bar as well where our husbands were waiting for us to have an aperitif. We stayed outside enjoying that wonderful and really unexpected warm evening! At about 10.00 p.m. we had the wish to eat something special…I searched on the net if there were the ice-cream shop I prefer: GROM. And surprise! This ice-cream shop was just ten minutes walking far.
On Sunday we wanted to enjoy the town with the sightseeing bus and so we did. I have to say I was a bit disappointed by the organization. Not clear info to reach the bus stop and once there no places on the bus! We had to wait for places and time passed quickly. Lunch time arrived and we also wanted to eat of course!

We got off of the bus after only two stops, in Piazza Di Spagna and we reached our hotel. From the window of our room we saw a little restaurant that seemed nice and we went there. We had our last lunch in Rome: rigatoni (pasta) with salted ricotta (a typical cheese) and aubergines. White wine to drink.

And back home by train. I wrote immediately this article to forget nothing of this beautiful weekend with my husband and my friends in the “Città Eterna”. Everybody swore to go back to Rome very soon and I will remind them their promise!!!
