Another place to go and enjoy meals! This time it’s in Tuscany in the province of Grosseto, near Punta Ala and Follonica, a little place on the hills but only 10 km far away from the most beautiful beaches of this area.

Tirli is a little medieval village with 300 inhabitants on a hill and reminds me the village where the movie “Chocolat” takes place with its narrow and upward streets. Right these streets can be a big problem in summertime when it’s high season because you have to climb them to reach the Locanda and there are no parking places. The ones who have a big car can really trouble a lot to round and go back down. My suggestion: if you can choose, use the smallest car you have and if you are a group of friends use as few cars as possible. People at the Inn always try helping you with parking but it’s really an enterprise!

Take your time to make a walk in the village before eating. It’s really charming and people are very friendly!
The Locanda is in an old small farm from 1700 completely renewed. The restaurant keeps its authentic style but it’s furnished in a contemporary way. I really like their walls made of stones and then painted in grey finishing with clay color. They are decorated at the bottom with tops of wine boxes. Some big white lamps are hanging at the ceiling and create a stage effect.

But now let’s talk about food! You eat very well here!!! The cuisine is the typical one from the Maremma but it’s also innovative. Near the seaside you can eat a lot of fish, but in this place we can find the typical cuisine from the hills with plates of meat. For example “Chianina” meat (a typical and traditional bovine meat from this area) that you can admire on a tray that is brought to you at your table before its cooking. I ate some “Tortelli” (stuffed pasta) with a white sauce made of rabbit last time I went there. I can still remember the pleasure at eating them! Wonderful! My husband ate Tortelli as well, but with a sauce made of Chianina meat. The same satisfaction for him! And as second course for me liver with plums on a bed of radicchio; for my husband, who followed the suggestions of the house, a tender part of meat cooked in the Chianti wine as the owner Emilio likes preparing it. Both the plates were very good!

The Locanda La Luna has a big variety of wines too. If you can’t choose by yourself you will be helped by the staff who lets you know the local wines as well.
It’s not the first time that we have been there and this place has never disappointed us. The staff is really kind and ready to help you, the restaurant is cozy and has a beautiful atmosphere. In summer you can even enjoy a private little corner to eat outside. If you want to try I really suggest you booking first.
We are coming back very soon there because we still have to enjoy many other specialties!

The one who doesn’t want to go away after dinner can sleep there at their bed & breakfast. I have never slept because I know they have only few rooms and it’s always better to book in advance.

A curiosity: LUNA ROSSA and the Locanda
Everything started in an evening in 1999 when Patrizio Bertelli (Managing Director of the Prada Group) was eating there at the Locanda. He had to choose the name for the boat that would have to challenge “Black Magic” and he was so moved by the name of the Locanda and by the beautiful almost red moon in the sky that he decided the famous name: “Luna Rossa” from Prada.
So from May 25th , 2007 the Locanda is the official seat of the LUNA ROSSA FAN CLUB!
