I don't know if you love them in other countries like we do in Germany, but I grant you it's very beautiful to have colored eggs on our Eastern tables! In Germany in this period you can find a lot of colored eggs in the supermarkets. To tell you the truth I don't trust so much these chemical colors because they sometimes get to the eggs as well. Not to risk color your eggs healthy! I'll give you some natural alternatives that are more beautiful and good for you.

\r\n

Natural colors with vegetables have no risks and they are good for our body unless that we don't eat too much! This way of coloring is funny and a little surprising because you never know the result!
I'm sure you'll enjoy it, especially when you do it with your kids. The shades and the intensity can be different because we work with 100% natural products and one thing is sure: you will love the result!

Last advices: the colors will be brighter if you use white eggs and eggs from country chickens. They also have thicker shells and you don't destroy them easily. Remember: it doesn't matter which kind of egg you use, you have absolutely to clean it with vinegar before!

\r\n

So: now we have to decide if we want to decorate our eggs full (to eat them after) or empty (only for decoration).

\r\n

Instructions for somebody that has never empty an egg: make a little hole with a needle at the top and at the bottom of your egg, make this hole bigger using the needle carefully, go inside with a tooth stick to break the yolk, take the egg gently in both hands, put a little bowl under it and blow in the hole at the top strong enough that the whole egg goes out of the hole at the base. Remember to be always delicate enough! Wash it at the end.

\r\n

Ready to color? Which color do you want to have?

\r\n

Red cabbage. It gets blue!

\r\n

Cut a half red cabbage in little pieces and boil them for 30/40 minutes in one liter of water.
Filter it and boil your eggs for ten minutes in this water until they are hard boiled. To stop their cooking put them under cold water.

\r\n

The blue/violet shades can be different if you leave the eggs after cooking in the liquid. The more you leave the more intensive they get! The liquid has to be cold of course!
If it's too much work for you to cut all the red cabbages, use blueberries. If so you have to boil the eggs before and put them in the liquid after. Leave them there until they get the color you like.

Beetroot. It gets red!

\r\n

Cook for 60 minutes 250 hg of cut beetroots in 1,5 liter of water, then filter it. Boil the eggs for 10 minutes in it. To stop their cooking put them under cold water. As usual if you want them more intensive you have to leave them in the liquid until they reach the color you want to get.

\r\n

If light pink is your favorite color, use mallow tea. Take 30-50 hg of leaves, put them in 1,5 liter of water, let them in infusion all night long. In the morning boil it for 20/30 minutes and filter. Go on with the eggs like before.

Chamomile. It gets yellow!

\r\n

Put 50 hg of chamomile flowers in a half liter of water and let them there all night long. Boil them the following morning for 20/30 minutes and filter. Go on with the eggs like before.

\r\n

Using chamomile the yellow gets softer. If you want a more intensive yellow, use curcuma. Put 10 gr. of curcuma in a half liter of water, boil it for 10 minutes, add eggs and go on as usual.

Spinach. It gets green!

\r\n

With the vegetables from our kitchen or our garden we don't get a dark green but a softer one. Take 4/5 hands of spinach leaves complete with the branches, cook them for 30 minutes in a half liter of water, filter the whole, cook the eggs in the liquid as usual. After some hours you will get a more intensive color.

\r\n

You can also try to reach a different green with mate tea. Take more or less 10 hg of leaves in one liter of water for one night long. The next morning boil them for 30 minutes, filter and boil the eggs as usual.

Important for all the colorations

\r\n

To have hard boiled eggs you have to boil them for 10 minutes. To stop their cooking remember to put them under cold water. If you want a more intensive color leave the boiled eggs in the cold liquid until you get the shade you love. Useless to say that all these instructions are right only for full eggs.

\r\n

Remember to clean all the eggs with vinegar first, so that they keep the coloration better.
