Villa Tiboldi, Canale – A bed and breakfast as a dream in the heart of Roero

The first thing I think when I see that hotel in the middle of the vineyards with its incredible view over the hills of Langhe and Roero is: “What a pity that I live right here and I can't spend my holidays in this place!”

I would like to describe you this bed and breakfast that looks like a world apart, padded, sophisticated, where the most important things are the respect for guests and their happiness.

Villa Tiboldi consists of three buildings: the manor house, the barn and the cottage of the tenant farmer. The main complex was built in the middle of 1700 as a farmhouse, but in the early 900ies it was transformed into a holiday house by the owner, a Genovese family. The Genovese owners added typical Ligurian details to the building and renovated the house making it bigger. They used fine materials, furnished in liberty style and planted a silver cedar and two linden trees in the center of the garden, the latter still standing today.

After years with different owners and their stories, Villa Tiboldi was purchased in 1995 by the brothers Massimo and Roberto Damonte, owners of the Malvirà winery. The beautiful vineyards surrounding the Villa where perfect to their activity and the remaining ruins of the Villa were transformed into a Relais.

The rooms where inaugurated on October 27th 2003, after 4 years of renovation.

There are ten rooms now: suites, junior suites and double rooms. There is a restaurant, a beautiful garden and a wonderful swimming pool. You are involved in the Italian ordinary life but in the same way you feel happily isolated from noises and rush.

Every room is different from the other, unique in its style and decorations. The original details and fine furniture create an elegant setting thanks to a very personal touch. As I have known Patrizia Damonte, Roberto's wife, for many years I can make you sure that this woman will do everything to make her guests feel cuddled because she takes care of any detail in every single room. She always looks for new fabrics and new decorations. She changes the positions of the furniture to find a cozier and cozier result.

To start your day in the best way you are welcomed by a rich buffet served in the winter garden in the cold season. In Summer you can enjoy it in the garden under big parasols with a wonderful view over the valley. The restaurant is open to the public as well.

Do you remember I have told you I would have talked about a work with one of my customers? Here we are! I decided to take Patrizia to Flamant’s Show Room and we went there to find something to renovate her restaurant. When I managed my shop she was one of my dearest customers, therefore it was natural for her to ask for my help.

We painted the walls of the restaurant with new colors choosing them from my favorite Flamant’s proposals. We chose the “mink color”. We changed the old curtains, which were nice but a little bit too serious in their pattern with embroidered big mugs. The new ones are in coated linen of the same color of the walls. The Persian carpets were changed into dove grey sisal carpets with borders in grosgrain of the same color. We removed the painting of some furniture that were already there, making it completely different. We bought all the other things, like lamps, little tables, lampshades and decorations together at Flamant's show room. Before the reopening on 14th of February I spend a lot of hours to define the furniture and the decorations in any detail.

The restaurant was already very elegant and nice as it was but Patrizia wanted another mood: as the Villa is in the middle of vineyards, she wanted that the nature comes into the restaurant as well. Now the rooms look bigger thanks to the same color of the walls and the curtains. The natural oak of the old furniture and the new ones together with the lamps on a glass cylindrical structure give lightness to both the rooms.

The result is an harmonious ambience that fits perfectly to formal and informal dinners and events.

Who travels to discover new places, its people, its land and its culture and make it through its cuisine, will come back home with a lot of delicious memories.

The flavors and the freshness of good quality local and seasonal products are the basic ingredients of the cuisine from the Villa.
In summer you can eat outside in the garden, both for lunch and dinner.
I can really grant you you’ll find a magical place with different scents, colors and a lot of candles in the evening that create a relaxing atmosphere with a fantastic view!

Relaxing is an art that everybody has to improve and it needs time. You can enjoy a “siesta” nearby the pool. Have a breath and take it easy!

Under the two lindens you can sip a glass of wine and enjoy a light lunch.

As I told you before, Patrizia loves changing and so we didn’t renovate only the restaurant but we also worked in some rooms. We replaced some covers of the armchairs and the sofas and added little furniture and decorations here and there.

The Relais is right in the middle of the vineyards of winery Malvirà production. As I have already told you, Massimo and Roberto are the owners of the Villa and of the winery as well. Visit the cellar and have a tasting is the best way of learning about the philosophy behind their wines. The two brothers always say that if you really want to appreciate a wine, you’ll have to drink it exactly where it is produced.

That’s why Massimo and Roberto are pleased to welcome their guests in their winery Malvirà located below the Villa Tiboldi and the vineyards that surrounds it. They also organize short tours around the Villa to let you taste their wines right in the middle of the vineyards where their grapes are cultivated.

On 30th June 2014 a new Charmat method spumante “Rive Gauche” was introduced to many clients and friends with a big party.

Getting to Villa Tiboldi you can already see it from the road and at its first sight you will understand this is the right place for you, it doesn’t matter if you are staying for a weekend or for longer. The Villa offers you everything you can desire: a pool, wonderful food and wine, cozy rooms and a nice restaurant. All these things in a area that from 22nd June 2014 belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage List!
