The magic of the napkin holders

As usual…. to see better “click” on the photos!

Don’t make faces! I don’t talk about a formal dinner were the napkin has to look like a swan or a crown, but about a dinner with friends, maybe organized at the last minute.

It would be nice to have all the time a lot of napkins at home, it’s nicer to have maybe old ones from your grandmother or new ones, anyway a huge choice of paper napkins. What is important is the quality (remember it doesn’t mean they have to be expensive!).

I’m going to make some easy examples: Fix the napkin with a little thin branch and add a wildflower from your garden or your balcony or a chili pepper ( whatever you prefer).

Another idea: you choose a fruit (maybe a season fruit) on the napkin fold in half, now you put around the “neck” of the fruit a thin strip of paper like a tie and on this you write the name of your guest. You can decorate also this napkin holder with a little thin brunch if you like.

Now we get a little more complicated: Let grow some watercress (it grows easily everywhere), than put it on an fold in half napkin, put a mini baguette on it and fasten all together with a paper napkin (its color must fit) and bow it with a nice ribbon. This example is perfect for a country dinner.

Delicate version: You can roll a napkin from your grandmother and fix it with strips of linen and decorate with a feather. If you don’t like using a feather you can use the green of asparagus and fasten it soft. Also in this case it is very beautiful to use an old linen napkin, but as an emergency you can also use a nice paper napkin.

Another quick idea: Take a thin ribbon or a string, pass it through a button (beautiful it is a natural string with a mother of pearl button), fasten to fix.

It takes a little more time: take some puff pastry (from your supermarket) and shape it as a heart or letter of the alphabet or a circle. Important it is that you get a hole in the middle. After baking pass the napkin inside the hole. Done!

A nice idea for your picnic: fold the napkin in twice to obtain a square and fasten it with a ribbon or a string like a post package and decorate everything with a little wild flower. In this case you can use different napkins but always made of fabric. For a nice presentation put all on a tray or a platter.

Very cinematographic: Take a little wicker basket or a ceramic bowl (also a nice paper or plastic box will be fine) place the napkin in it so that the two extremities hang out and put a little salt shaker, a butter knife, a little bowl with butter and some slices of toasted bread….to reach the top add some green salad leaves!

For today it’s enough….only to show you that’s not complicated to get some nice table setting like we think sometimes! Later on some more ideas!
